Project 2: Contextual Fit
Architectural Design II- ARC 257
In this project, we are tasked with designing an addition to the Smith House, built in 1965 by architect Richard Meier. The new design must respect the original architecture by analyzing and incorporating its existing systems and patterns. The original design concept must be clarified, strengthened, and built upon, rather than destroyed.

Narrative
The Smith family, now retired, is transitioning the celebrated Smith House on the Long Island Sound into their permanent residence. Their new shared passion is photography . They recognize the way the home's striking contrast between opaque walls and transparent glass intentionally frames the landscape and highlights the changing light. This architectural precision perfectly mirrors their new passion for lens-based art.
